Milagres Church
Milagres Church is a famous church that was built by Bishop Thomas De Castro during the year 1680. The Bishop was known as the Theatine Priest of Salsette. The church is situated in Mangalore in the state of Karnataka. Structure of the present Church
Exactly after 100 years from the day the church was inaugurated, Fr. Frank Periera erected a magnificent church with the Fr. Diamanti, who was a famous architect during those days. The church was done by the year 1911. The structure developed by Fr. Diamanti can be witnessed even today in this place. Only the portico of the church has been destroyed in the past. The Parish claims to have some of the leading Catholic Institutions in this palace. The church has got halls that can be used for weddings, meetings and for entertainment purposes. The architectural brilliance of this Church has made it a tourist spot in the past generation and many people from all around the world visit it to witness the architecture through their own eyes.

History of Milagres Church
The church was built on the exact site of the cemetery that can be found in present at this place. During the 16th century a very important event took place in the history of the Christian community. The Christians were migrated from the south of Kanara as they have got a spiritual desolation on the Priests. During 1658, the Carmelite missionary visited Kanara Christians and they reported the sorry plight to Rome. The Theatine Priest named Rev. Fr. Thomas de Castro reached this place during the year 1674. During his arrival, he has witnessed the need for a place to worship for all the local Catholics who live in this place. This is where he came to a decision and started to build the church in the year 1680. He later on died during July 1684 and the grave of his can be found in the Milagres cemetery. Victory from the Ashes
Among the people who returned back to Mangalore after the death of the great Tipu Sultan was Lawrence Bello, who has built a chapel that is being constructed to replace the church that was completely destroyed by the Tippu Sultan.Fr. Mendez made the necessary arrangements and he had raised funds to build the Chapel at this place. He sought the help from the Government and made the foundation of this space during the year 1811.
